TikTok pays $400 million to settle US children's privacy case

TikTok has settled with the US Department of Justice over violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires parental consent before collecting personal data from children under 13. The company will pay $300 million immediately and a further $100 million at a later date, totalling $400 million. TikTok had been accused of illegally harvesting minors' personal information.
