Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, Warsaw Uprising fighter and guardian of memory, dies aged 99
Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, a participant in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, has died at the age of 99. As a teenager she disguised herself as a boy to obtain a weapon — a Błyskawica submachine gun. After the war she spent decades restoring the names and stories of fallen fighters, becoming one of the most recognised voices of remembrance of the Uprising.
