Poland's IPN exhumes Volhynia massacre victims as nearby Ukrainians deny local involvement
Poland's Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) conducted exhumations of Volhynia massacre victims near the village of Ostrówki. Ukrainians living nearby deny any local involvement in the killings of Poles, blaming Soviets or claiming their village was peaceful. An IPN staff member stressed that leaving the remains of Polish victims unexhumed would be unconscionable.
