Germany plans €12bn long-range missile programme to deter Russia

Germany plans to spend nearly €12 billion on a new arsenal of long-range weapons capable of striking targets hundreds or thousands of kilometres behind the front line. Defence ministry documents describe the programme as a top priority for both Germany and NATO. The plan has four phases, with the first weapons expected as early as next year. The stated goal is to enable strikes deep into an adversary's rear with conventional weapons, below the nuclear threshold.
