Morocco claims Ceuta and Melilla; Spain rejects the demand

Morocco's government on Friday formally claimed sovereignty over Spain's North African exclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. Ceuta has been in the grip of a migration crisis since late July, partly fuelled by Moroccan border authorities allowing tens of thousands of migrants to cross illegally. Spain rejected the territorial claims, reaffirming its sovereignty over both enclaves.
