TikTok to pay $400M in US settlement over children's privacy violations

The US Department of Justice announced a $400 million settlement with TikTok, ByteDance and affiliated entities over violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The DOJ filed its complaint in 2024, alleging illegal collection of personal data from underage users. It is one of the largest financial settlements of its kind in US history.
