China builds massive artificial island in South China Sea with military runway and warship quay

In just 10 months of nonstop dredging, China has transformed Antelope Reef — previously almost entirely submerged — into a nearly 1,500-acre artificial island in the South China Sea. Satellite imagery dated August 11, provided by spatial intelligence firm Vantor, shows a deep-water port with a 2,000-plus-foot quay capable of berthing warships and the beginnings of a 10,000-foot military-grade runway.
