TikTok to pay $400 million to settle US child privacy lawsuit

The US Department of Justice announced that TikTok will pay $400 million to settle a 2024 lawsuit over violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The DOJ alleged that TikTok collected data from minors without notifying parents or obtaining consent and failed to delete underage accounts. The settlement is one of the largest ever in a child online privacy case.
