TikTok to pay $400 million to settle US child privacy lawsuit

TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance have agreed to pay $400 million to the US government to settle a lawsuit alleging violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The Justice Department announced the settlement on Friday. It is one of the largest financial penalties ever imposed on a social media platform over child safety.
