World 1500m champion Jenny Simpson retires after cardiac arrest at June track event
Jenny Simpson, the 2011 world 1500m champion and three-time Olympian, has announced she will not return to running after suffering a cardiac arrest in June while pacing a mile group at a track event in North Carolina. The 39-year-old was given CPR before being rushed to hospital, where she was placed on life support due to heart and lung complications. Simpson is one of the most accomplished American female distance runners in history.
