Pakistan ends 8-year crypto ban and opens licensing portal for virtual asset firms

Pakistan has introduced its first comprehensive legal framework for cryptocurrencies, the Virtual Assets Act, ending nearly a decade of prohibition on the asset class. Bilal Bin Saqib, special assistant to the prime minister on blockchain and cryptocurrency, announced the news on Friday and invited foreign businesses to set up operations in the country via a new licensing portal. The act establishes oversight rules for virtual assets and the businesses operating in the space.
