Record-breaking El Niño could make 2027 the hottest year ever

This year's El Niño is on track to be the strongest in over a century, according to the head of long-range forecasting at the UK's Met Office. Combined with long-term human-caused climate change, it threatens to unleash extreme weather globally and could make 2027 the hottest year on record by far. Experts say the heat spike offers a preview of conditions the world can expect by the late 2030s.
