Tyson Foods closes two US beef plants as cattle shortage hits 75-year low

Tyson Foods, the largest meatpacking company in the US, is closing two facilities in Iowa and Utah and selling a beef plant in Washington state, laying off hundreds of workers. The moves come as US cattle supply hits a 75-year low driven by multi-year drought, rising costs and industry consolidation. Beef prices have soared, though economists say the Tyson closures alone are unlikely to significantly push consumer prices higher.
