Human rights groups urge Berek to withdraw from constitutional court candidacy

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, the Stefan Batory Foundation and other civil society groups are calling on Marcin Berek to withdraw his candidacy for the Constitutional Tribunal. They warn that a tribunal too closely tied to politicians will be unable to perform its functions reliably and could pose a real threat to democracy. Berek currently serves as a minister in Donald Tusk's government.
