'Dark photons' may explain dark matter without heating the early universe

New research suggests that if dark matter is composed of "dark photons" — a hypothetical dark-universe analogue of ordinary photons — it would not have heated the early cosmos as scientists previously assumed. If confirmed, the finding could represent a paradigm shift in the hunt for dark matter, which outweighs ordinary matter by five to one yet remains invisible because it does not interact with light.
