3D-printed corneas from one donor could yield hundreds of implants

Israeli-American company Precise Bio has developed a 3D bioprinting method that uses lab-grown human corneal cells to produce hundreds of transparent implants from a single donor's tissue. The implants mimic the layered structure of a healthy natural cornea. Last year the company achieved a historic first by providing a patient with the world's first corneal implant made entirely of lab-cultured human cells. The technology aims to address a worldwide shortage of donor corneas.
