Ukraine stopped importing Russian gas and began exporting energy to Europe
For years Russia used energy supplies as a lever of pressure against Ukraine and the West. According to an analysis, by August 2026 that situation had reversed: Ukraine shed its dependence on Russian fuels and itself became an energy exporter, turning the Kremlin's geopolitical weapon into a weakness. The shift undermines Russia's propaganda narrative that the West would freeze without Russian oil and gas.
