Mars Express captures Schiaparelli crater in exceptional detail

The European Space Agency's Mars Express probe captured highly detailed images of the Schiaparelli crater during a low flyover of Mars's southern highlands. The photographs reveal the complex geological history of the area. The crater is also known from the novel "The Martian".
