Heat waves slash crop yields — IGC cuts global grain forecast by 5 million tonnes
The International Grains Council has cut its global grain production forecast for the 2026/27 season by 5 million tonnes to 2.416 billion tonnes. The revision is driven mainly by worsening crop prospects in Europe, where persistent heat waves have prompted analysts to lower EU forecasts for the second consecutive time. The shortfall could push food prices higher.
