Technosignatures: how Earth's industrial civilisation would look from outer space

Scientists are exploring what signs of civilisation — known as technosignatures — could be detectable on exoplanets from afar. Examples include industrial chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), air pollution gases and their notable drop during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earth at its current level of industrialisation may be more detectable from space than at any earlier point in its history.
