Europe cancels planned Ariane 6 upgrades citing high costs

Europe has cancelled planned upgrades for its Ariane 6 rocket despite the vehicle completing eight successful orbital missions since its debut. The main obstacle is the high operating cost of the expendable rocket, which can carry over 20 metric tons to low-Earth orbit. Ariane 6 had a smoother rollout than US rivals Blue Origin's New Glenn and ULA's Vulcan, both of which faced significant growing pains.
