US Air Force buys banned DJI drones for counter-drone training

The US Air Force's 90th Contracting Squadron issued a solicitation on August 14, 2026, for two refurbished DJI Mavic 2 Pro quadcopters for counter-drone training at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. The base protects Minuteman III missiles, making airborne security a top priority. Despite DJI drones being officially banned, the Air Force argues they represent the most statistically probable real-world threat. RIZER software will isolate the drones during training exercises.
