Third Dodge Durango recall in five years over detaching rear spoiler

Stellantis has issued new recalls for the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Spoiler problems continue to haunt the Durango, sparking a third recall in five years.

A handful of Grand Cherokees have software that prevents wipers from working.

Stellantis is recalling nearly 75,000 vehicles in the United States over two separate issues. They involve faulty windshield wipers and a rear spoiler that can detach while driving.

The larger of the two recalls impacts 74,578 Dodge Durango SUVs from the 2021-2023 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the rear spoiler may not be aligned properly with the roof, which can potentially result in damage when using the liftgate. If this occurs, the damaged spoiler could fall off while driving.

This isn’t a new problem as the company issued similar recalls in 2021 and 2023. However, in March of 2026, Stellantis opened an investigation after receiving reports of rear spoiler detachments after the previous recalls were completed. This includes 116 warranty claims, eight customer assistance records, and 37 other service records potentially related to the issue between May 10, 2022 and June 30, 2026.

The problem is being blamed on an “over-flush rear spoiler” and its believed that only 0.8% of the recalled vehicles are impacted. Unfortunately, there’s no fix at the moment, but the previous recalls involved dealers inspecting and replacing the rear spoiler, as needed.

The second recall is much smaller as it involves 81 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs from 2026. They have a software issue, which can prevent the windshield wipers from working properly.

The models were built or flashed with bad body control module software, which can “cause the windshield wipers to become inoperable under certain conditions.” Jeep became aware of the issue in June and has only received three field reports related to the problem.

Since it’s a software issue, the fix is pretty straight forward as dealers will update the body control module software. Owners are expected to be notified early next month.
