US Air Force orders new explosive charges for 'retired' F-117 Nighthawk's tailhook

Despite being officially retired in 2008, a small fleet of F-117 Nighthawk stealth jets continues to fly from the secretive Tonopah Test Range in Nevada, with the Air Force planning to keep them airborne at least until 2034. The service has issued a notice for a sole-source contract to supply new cartridge- and propellant-actuated devices (CAD/PAD) for the aircraft's emergency tailhook system. The tailhook deploys using explosive charges and requires periodic replacement.
