$30 million mission to save NASA's Swift telescope fails

A private rescue mission for NASA's Swift Observatory has failed after the rescue spacecraft LINK, built by Katalyst Space and launched July 3, began spinning out of control. On August 19, NASA announced it would not continue with the mission. The Swift telescope, launched in 2004 to detect gamma-ray bursts, is now doomed to fall back to Earth later this year. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman said the mission was still "worth attempting."
