Same-sex partners pay full inheritance tax as court refuses to act in place of lawmakers
A Polish court has ruled that a person in a notarially confirmed same-sex partnership must pay inheritance tax at the full rate applicable to strangers, rather than the preferential rate for family members. The court stated it cannot substitute for the legislature in granting tax exemptions that parliament has not enacted, highlighting the ongoing absence of a civil partnership law in Poland.
