US Army phases out drone and robot assault battalion in "back-to-basics" shift

The US Army is phasing out its relatively new drone and robot assault battalion, established by former chief of staff Gen. Randy George. The decision was made by acting Army chief of staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve as part of a "back-to-basics" approach. The unit will be refocused as a standard airborne infantry battalion, abandoning its drone development mission despite lessons from the Ukraine war highlighting drones' growing battlefield importance.
