Skull bone structures found to protect the brain against tumours
Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified lymph-node-like tissue clusters in mouse skull bone marrow that trigger a rapid immune response against aggressive brain tumours. Proteins travel from the brain through tiny channels connecting brain tissue, the dura mater and the skull to the bone marrow. The discovery challenges the long-held view that the brain is largely isolated from the immune system.
