Natural underground hydrogen could revolutionise clean fuel production

Scientists and investors are hunting for naturally occurring hydrogen gas hidden underground, in what some researchers are calling a 21st-century gold rush. Hydrogen is seen as a climate-friendly fuel of the future — burning it produces water and oxygen, with no carbon emissions. Today almost all hydrogen is made from fossil fuels, mainly natural gas, but geological reserves could transform that picture.
