NATO plans thousands of AI drones on Russia border — but humans keep the trigger

NATO is planning to deploy a network of sensors and AI-assisted drones along 3,500 kilometres of its border with Russia and Belarus under the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative. Artificial intelligence will control drone fleets and assist with threat detection and tracking, but human operators will retain the final say on any strike decision. The approach mirrors Ukraine's own border-defence strategy against Russian aggression.
