Mystery of square wounds from 14th-century Battle of Visby solved
For decades, square-shaped holes in the skulls of soldiers killed at the Battle of Visby had puzzled archaeologists. Researchers have now identified the most probable weapon responsible for these unusual wounds, solving one of medieval archaeology's longest-standing mysteries. The battle took place on 27 July 1361.
