Somali pirates resurge amid Iran war — at least five attacks since April

Somali pirates have seized at least five commercial ships since April, exploiting a naval power vacuum created as countries redirect warships to the Middle East due to the Iran war, according to maritime intelligence firm Windward. At least three tankers carrying oil and fertiliser — commodities hit hardest by Strait of Hormuz disruptions — have been captured. Dozens of crew members are being held hostage off the Somali coast.
