WWII veteran Józef Kowalczyk, Monte Cassino fighter, dies aged 102

Second Lieutenant Józef Kowalczyk, the last surviving soldier in Poland from the 12th Podolian Uhlan Regiment of the Polish II Corps, has died at the age of 102. He fought in the famous Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II. His death marks the passing of another direct witness to Polish forces fighting in the West.
