Fastest Milky Way star will put relativity to the test
Astronomers have discovered a new S star — one of the population of stars orbiting the Milky Way's supermassive black hole. It is both the fastest and the closest to the black hole of any known S star. Scientists say it will provide a unique opportunity to test general relativity, particularly the Lense-Thirring effect caused by a rotating black hole dragging spacetime.
