Etna shuts down Catania airport — 684 flights cancelled, €22m in losses
Volcanic activity from Mount Etna shut down Catania airport for eight days during the peak tourist season. A total of 684 flights were cancelled, affecting around 104,000 passengers. Sicily's tourism industry estimates losses at €22 million.
