Bitcoin surges past $68,000 after US Treasury doubles debt buybacks

Bitcoin jumped nearly 3% in 24 hours to $68,473, briefly touching $68,982, after the US Treasury announced it would more than double the size of its government debt repurchases. The Treasury cited pressure on fixed-income markets and yields rising to levels not seen in nearly 20 years as reasons for the move. Over the past week, the world's largest cryptocurrency is up more than 3%.
