Dark matter may be magnifying a black hole's jets — and explaining the source of cosmic neutrinos

Astronomers have found that a plasma jet fired at near-light-speed from the supermassive black hole powering blazar PKS 2233-148 is being gravitationally lensed by an unseen clump of dark matter. The discovery could shed light on the origin of cosmic neutrinos — elusive particles nicknamed "ghosts". Blazars have long been candidates for the cosmic particle accelerators that direct neutrino streams toward Earth.
