FDA approves Pasatru, first drug for disease that turns muscle into bone
The FDA has approved Pasatru, a Regeneron Pharmaceuticals drug for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), an ultra-rare disease where soft tissue turns into bone. The condition typically confines patients to wheelchairs before age 25, and many do not survive into their 50s. Clinical trials showed Pasatru almost completely stops new bone formation, potentially preserving patients' mobility and extending their lives.
