IBM plans fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2029 with ultra-cold modular fridges

IBM has unveiled a new modular, ultra-cold system designed to link hundreds of quantum chips together, running at temperatures nearly 200 times colder than deep space. The company says this will enable the world's first fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2029, using quantum error correction to fix noise in real time. Such a machine could power research in chemistry, materials science and theoretical physics well beyond current supercomputer capabilities.
