Astronomers detect the fastest known star in the Milky Way at 25,000 km/s

Astronomers have detected S301, the fastest known star in the Milky Way, travelling at around 25,000 km/s — 100,000 times faster than a commercial aircraft. It is also the closest known star to the galaxy's central black hole, Sagittarius A*, orbiting at roughly the distance of Saturn from the Sun. Scientists say the discovery could provide a new window into the black hole's fundamental properties.
