France records over 7,300 excess deaths during record-breaking heatwaves

French public health authorities reported more than 7,300 excess deaths recorded over a historically hot summer. An AFP analysis found France endured a record 52 days of heatwaves since mid-June. The toll comes as Europe faces worsening heatwaves, wildfires and droughts.
