New star S301 discovered near Sagittarius A* could reveal the black hole's spin

Astronomers have discovered a fast-orbiting star, designated S301, near the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* at the centre of the Milky Way. Relativistic measurements of S301's orbit could provide the first reliable probe of the black hole's spin. The discovery was published in the journal Nature.
