Venomous Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish invade French and Spanish beaches
Portuguese man-of-war creatures — resembling small blue-violet balloons with tentacles up to 30 metres long — are increasingly washing up on popular beaches in France and Spain. More than a thousand stinging incidents were recorded on the French Basque Coast alone since mid-July. Authorities have issued warnings to beachgoers in affected areas.
