US and South Korea cut joint military drills to 5 days after Trump's order

The US and South Korea have shortened the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercise from 11 to 5 days, ending August 21 instead of as originally planned, and scaled back some field training following a Trump order to substantially reduce US participation. The change coincides with a visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Seoul for regional security talks. North Korea's Kim Yo Jong dismissed the reduction as insufficient, saying the drills remain provocative and aggressive in nature.
