Markets rally as US Treasury doubles bond buybacks to ease yields
The US Treasury announced it will at least double the size of its bond buybacks — from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation — effective September 9 through November 4. The move partially reversed a selloff in longer-term US debt, which had reached its highest yields since. Bond yields fell and stocks jumped in response. Yields had been rising due to geopolitical tensions, AI infrastructure financing competition and widening US deficits.
