Palestinian Authority can no longer fund basic services as financial crisis deepens
The Palestinian Authority has already lost much of its capacity to fund essential services including education, healthcare and infrastructure, as well as to pay public-sector salaries in full. Joost Hiltermann of the International Crisis Group describes the situation not as an approaching emergency but as an ongoing process of institutional and economic erosion. Settlement expansion, settler violence and Israeli financial restrictions are simultaneously threatening Palestinian institutions and economic life.
