Poland raises income tax threshold, adds 24% PIT rate — analyst: Tusk had to act after hospital scandal

The Polish government of Donald Tusk has unveiled a tax reform package: a higher second PIT bracket threshold, a new 24% PIT rate and a higher corporate tax for the largest companies. Political scientist Prof. Rafał Chwedoruk says the move was triggered by the Southern Hospital scandal, which erupted in a Civic Coalition stronghold, and that "the only argument was a budgetary one." The proposals have drawn criticism from within the coalition itself.
