US biotech firm creates CRISPR-edited dogs that won't trigger allergies
US biotech startup Kindred Companion Sciences has created two beagles — Alfie and Bailey — whose allergy-triggering protein gene was deactivated using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Co-founder Matt Walker says both dogs, who will turn two this autumn, are in full health. The project raises significant scientific and ethical questions about genetically modifying pets for human convenience.
