Hidden AirTag exposes Amazon destroying rare books to train AI
Booksellers had suspected for about a year that AI companies were bulk-buying rare books, scanning them, and then destroying them to train AI models. The outlet 404 Media planted an AirTag in a rare book included in a bulk order; it was tracked to an Amazon AI training facility in Las Vegas, where a team dedicated to tearing books apart and scanning pages was based. A logo on the warehouse door depicted a Tyrannosaurus rex devouring a book.
