Cuba has doctors but hospitals are paralysed by power blackouts
Since January 2026, near-constant power blackouts caused by the Trump administration's oil blockades have crippled Cuba's national power grid. The country's once-praised universal health system is now in a humanitarian crisis, with hospitals unable to function reliably without electricity. Cuba has no shortage of doctors, but lacks the power, medicine and equipment needed to treat patients.
